one more thing...her post reminded me of the problems i had with some of the new mcdonald's commercials, which are clearly geared toward latinos...as it's about a spicy food...b/c as she says, all latinos love spicy food, right? lol

the commercials include latino actors, reggaeton, salsa music, salsa dancing etc...all to sell some gross chicken fingers with taco sauce in a wrap. what i take away from the commercial has little to do with food, and more to do with stereotypes about latinos being spicy...

great interview. it was really nice to hear ms. martinez's perspective and i think the issue she brought up can be applied to every ethnic/racial/national minority group in the US. it's a huge pet peeve of mine that latinos are presented as such a homogeneous group when it's actually the complete opposite. considering the growing latino population in the US, it is my hope that americans will start realizing this and learn more about their immigrant neighbors as opposed to lumping them into one category (which ultimately leads to prejudice and subsequent discrimination).
