RANT
The limitation of racial satire is the subject of Carmen’s rant today. What happens when people take it at face value and laugh for the wrong reasons? Should artists and comedians be held responsible for the way their work is perceived? We discuss many different examples of racial satire, including the new film CSA: Confederate States of America, the Chappelle Show, The Boondocks, Margaret Cho’s comedy, Sarah Jones’ performance art, and the new play Jewtopia.

MIXED MEDIA WATCH NEWS UPDATE
Jen discusses three recent news items. The Duke Lacrosse team rape case reveals some interesting (racist) patterns in the ways in which the media describe crimes perpetuated by black people versus those perpetuated by whites. Hines Ward’s visit to South Korea prompts the government to make some serious changes in the way it treats mixed Koreans. For the first time ever, a mixed black/Chinese woman enters the Miss Chinatown pageant in Los Angeles and wins third place! Finally, we mourn (ahem) the conclusion of the show we love to hate, Black.White.

RACE IN THE WORKPLACE
Another installment of this favorite segment! Daniel shares his experience with diversity training, and an anonymous listener writes in about the perception that minorities (especially Latinos and Blacks) don’t need or don’t want jobs.

New episode delayed

UPDATE: Sorry but we won’t be able to put out another episode until next Monday, April 24th. We’re so sorry! Both of us were on the road last week, separately, so it’s been impossible to coordinate a time to record. We’ll get back to our regular schedule soon though, we promise!

Apologies everyone! Our next episode was supposed to come out yesterday, but we’re a little bit behind schedule. Keep an eye out though, as it should be coming through the pipeline in the next couple of days. Thanks! :)

RANT
The “mixed olympics” is the subject of Jen’s rant today. Yes, we believe strongly that people should be able to self-identify however they want. But if you’re listing 8 or 15 different ethnicities, are you for real? Or are you just trying to “out-mix” everybody else?

MIXED MEDIA WATCH NEWS UPDATE
Carmen discusses four recent news stories. An article about single women who are using sperm donors to have babies on their own quoted one white woman as saying that she wanted to make a mixed baby. Her reasons for this? A attraction to multiculturalism, a belief that a mixed child wouldn’t need as much sunblock and a parallel to mixed dogs, who are always more friendly and don’t bark as much. The principal of a magnet school in Hartford, CT coerced mixed students to change their official racial classification to white so that the school could qualify for more funding. Yet another nation-wide study on interracial relationships oops! forgets to include Asians in the mix. An article on the treatment of mixed identity on “The L Word” sets off a firestorm of anti-mixed feedback.

RACE IN THE WORKPLACE
We finally debut this brand-new segment! Carmen shares a story about trying to explain a racist incident to her boss, only to be labeled a bigot herself. And Marsha writes in with a story about a misguided attempt at celebrating multiculturalism at her office.
